Thomas Edison's Light Bulb

The "Budding" class got to learn the basics of writing an Opinion Piece as we discussed the importance of Thomas Edison's amazing invention of the light bulb.  While the project was "fill in the blank" style, students were encouraged to expand on their thoughts and show strong reasons for their opinions.  Enjoy these samples!  Would you agree with these students?

Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb was awesome.  The light bulb is amazing because it runs on electricity.  Without the light bulb, people would not see very well, because candles are not that bright.  I think the light bulb is very good for your eye sight.

Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb was kind for all, because he shared his invention with everybody.  The light bulb is important, because your home can catch on fire if you use candles.  Without the light bulb, the world would be dark.  I think the light bulb is a really nice, big, and bright idea!

Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb was interesting.  The light bulb is important because back then, they had to use oil lamps rather than electricity.  Without the light bulb, life would be dark, scary, and last but not least, it would not be fun because it would be pitch black.  Without electricity, we would probably be sleepy and snorey!  I think the light bulb is an exquisite idea.
