Persuasive Writing: Election Time!

      Check out these awesome presidential candidates and propositions!  Would you vote for them?  In this lesson on persuasive writing, the students were taught to write an introduction, body, and conclusion that explained their views clearly and packed a punch with persuasiveness through strong and emotion-filled language.  Enjoy these selections!

            PROP 1234: Get a 3 day weekend and a 4 day school week!!!

   Prop 1234 is the best prop in the USA. Prop 1234 means having more free time to spend on the weekends. Also, this proposition will create a shorter school week!!!

First, getting a 3-day weekend is important because we can get more time to finish school homework. There is not much time to play with our families as the schedule is now. We can get more time to spend time with our families with a 3-day weekend. If you are a teacher, you get to have more time to plan fun activities for students to do!  Finally, there will be more time to plan extra work for some students that need more education. 

If you want to have more time to finish homework, plan activities for school, and spend more time with your family, be sure to vote YES on Prop 1234.

     If I get elected, it will only cost $1,000 to live in America for a lifetime!  There will be more military forts, so the country will be more protected.  Paper will also be free!  Everyone will have a pet, and they can bring it to school every day.

If you want a caring, supportive and considerate president, and if you care about the people around you ,vote for Jessie. I will try hard to be considerate and make fair decisions.  Here are some more reasons why you should vote for me.

Voting for me will not only help people who are fortunate, but also the people who aren’t fortunate. I will work on making services for food, if restaurantes have extra food, I’ll get that to the people in need, instead of the good food going to the garbage and creating large landfills. I also will build a large orphanage building.  It will be a fun place, and a school will be built right next to it, just for orphans.  That way they can learn like the people around them and won’t feel left out. The last important thing that I will do is build homeless shelters.  They will receive  donated things, and some will be made new.  The taxes will pay for these things just like public schools, libraries and other buildings.

Imagine if you didn’t have a home, food or parents, you would feel terrible, hungry or discouraged. If you want to help those people vote for Jessie.

Prop 39: Get to Wear What You Want in School!

Prop 39 is one of the best props in the world. It allows students to wear whatever they want to school, and not wear uniforms.  It lets you be free in school!  Let me tell you more about Prop 39. 

Have you ever felt itchy in school  because of your uniform?  Well Prop 39 will get rid of that. Have you ever felt that you want to express how you are feeling that day, and you couldn’t express yourself because of your uniform? Well Prop 39 will change that and will let you express yourself.  Students also get to wear what they choose.  If they want to wear more thin shirts and thin shorts because it was going to be a hot day, they can choose that instead of their thicker uniforms.   

 You should vote Prop 39 because it will let students wear comfortable clothes in school and let them express themselves in school by wearing clothes of their choice. So vote for Prop 39 for true clothing freedom! 

                                                            Behold  the future

I want to help our electric future so it won’t be like the past. I believe in better learning conditions for our future students, and better wifi! So please vote YES on Prop 51 . 

This proposition will help students learn better by providing discounted wifi that actually works. My prop would solve that annoying problem of having your partner drop out of your breakout room, and it would help your teachers to stop dropping like flies. Lastly, my proposition will at the beginning of every school year make all internet companies  give a 80% off to you! 

So please help the future in a brand new way by supporting Prop 51. 

                                    Prop 123456789 : No More Dangerous Fires

Prop 123456789 provides a key component that will help the face of the Earth. It makes it so that big fires and lighters are banned. This prop is important for many reasons.

The first reason is that in October 2020, there were 44,000 Fires. All of these fires were caused by lighters and other fires. The second reason is that there are children and toddlers who die or get hurt from the use of lighters. They grab onto the lighter, and because they have no safety cap, they start a fire and burn themselves. My last reason is that I created an invention that bypasses the issues. 

This invention creates a spark that has a strong keyhole cap. The only way to unlock it is if you use the designated key given to you. You need to go through a big process to use this tool so that you don't misuse it. It only can be opened for ten seconds before getting locked for one minute. 

Vote yes on Prop 123456789 if you want to save acres of our beautiful land, as well as children, by using this incredible invention.

Election Day!

During the week of the election, my students and I had a great time brainstorming ideas that would make great propositions to put on the next ballot.  We also talked about what would make them fantastic presidents if they were to run for office.  Enjoy these, and feel free to comment on if you would vote for them or not!

Proposition 100, by Ryan (4th grade)

     My name is Ryan, and I think that you should vote yes on proposition 100.
In California, GAS prices have gone up. At Shell, the GAS was $5.50 for a gallon last week! 

     Millions of people are losing money due to high gas prices and the owners of GAS companies are owning five mansions! People could start liking to actually go and buy gas for a low price. We should not have to worry about the oil companies making money. You should not have to waste precious money on gas. You should spend money on things that will help you not worry. People should also save money and not have to spend it on so much gas that will have to be paid for again in the next few days.  And people would like to go and see the world in a car if gas was cheap. In New York City the people in hurricane Sandy need gas for their car. The people there are in dire need for gas.

     A gallon of gas will never go over $1.00 ever again. So vote yes on proposition 100.

Proposition 43,952, by Crystal (5th grade)

     Vote YES on Proposition 43-952, but only if you want to lower taxes (which everyone does, right?)  Right now, people are wasting their money by trying to pay high taxes.  If people don't have enough money to pay taxes, stores won't have cash to improve themselves.  Then, stores won't be able to pay taxes, and the government will be angry.  When the government is angry, bad things happen and our economy will crash.  If the economy crashes, people will have no money to buy anything, and the whole cycle will repeat itself over and over again.  All of these tragic, miserable events could actually happen in real life.  (This is your last warning!)  If you want to lower your taxes, or if you don't want this whole cycle to keep repeating itself, vote YES on Prop 43,952.

Clarke for President!  (3rd grade)

     I want to be the president of the United States of America because I would make No Smoking anywhere a law.  I would also make more hospitals.  I would also make a law that if you get arrested, you would stay in jail until the president decided what to do with you.  I think I would be a very good president because I would only make good laws.  I would also make cars that had jetpacks and airplane wings.  Vote Clarke for President!

Katy for President!  (5th grade)

     If I could run for president, I definitely would for so many reasons.  Vote for me, an ambitious, determined, friendly, hard-working, smart Girl Scout for president!  If I were president, I would pass Proposition 150, making sure everything under $15 without tax is free.  Also, I would pass Prop 231, creating no kennel fees for vacations. Prop 155 would make your credit card bill lower, and Prop 234 would make sure you DON'T pay more money for taking pets on vacation.  You should vote for me because I am trustworthy, and I am excited to run.  This could change YOUR life because my laws would change the economy, bills, and vacations.  If you want a trust-worthy president, vote for Katy!

Jacob for President!  (5th grade)

     Imagine a handsome and strong president who is willing to risk everything, including his life, to keep his country safe and have the economy balanced.  That's why you should vote for me.  I have all of those good qualities, but here are some more reasons you should vote for me.

     First of all, I will be open to spending half of the country's tax money on giving all of the homeless people a place to live, and lower the tax rates.  I will do this because many people do not have homes and are having a miserable life due to worrying about where they're going to sleep tonight or tomorrow.  Tax rates would also support people having homes because lots of people have lost their jobs and to make matters worse, they will have to pay a lot of money on taxes, even though the government already has trillions of dollars.  I will definitely stop this now because this is all just unfair.  

     Picture everybody sleeping in a home with their family, worrying about very little.  That's what will happen if you vote for me, Jacob.

Election Day

One of my Writers' Workshops fell on Election Day.  On the drive to school, I started brainstorming an assignment that I am really glad we ended up doing!  The students were either to write letters describing why they were running for governor, or suggesting a proposition that would make life better.  I love these two students' emphasis on school-- enjoy!!

Dear President Obama,

I would like to become the new governor of California.  I am in fifth grade and was chosen by the principal of my school.  I will change the laws in a better way so that everyone will like them.  First, because every child is important and should go to school, I will make a law that every school should start at 9:30 and end at 4:00 with each child in this state spread out in a school.  I would also have only healthy food for hot lunch.  Also, I would create a law that teachers should only give students homework if they need it or want it.  Teachers can only give homework to the children who are behind, which will urge them to work harder.

Put me on the ballot and I will improve America by improving California!

Proposition 29

Hello, I'm a 4th grader at __________.  The President told me to make a proposition, so vote for Prop. 29.  Prop 29 would make schools give more vacations.  If we have more vacations, the children would be happier.  They would get Monday through Saturday off.  So, that means they only have school on Sundays.  But on Sunday, you have school from 8:45 AM to 6:00 PM.  Plus, you only get homework if you miss school a lot or you have bad grades.  On Sunday, you get to skip class if it is a holiday.  This is why you should vote for Prop 29.
